The number of subscription movie and television show applications continues to increase as big screen Tv's like 'LG 65inch 4k wallpaper TV' coming to the market.  A few recent ones include Disney’s new streaming service called Disney+ which will offer loads of original shows and movies.  They will also stream their literally vast library of movies from recent acquisitions including Star Wars, Pixar, and Marvel. These will all be action moviesLinks to an external site.. A limiting factor for some of the other major streaming services like Hulu and Netflix, is that Disney will likely stop giving any of their movie assets to them and retain these for their own online streaming service.  They will also likely make some of their own movies which will never go to the big screen.  The online Disney movie portfolio will not only be quite large, but very good as well.  Disney’s option is planned to cost $6.99.

Additional new options in 2019 include:

  • IMDB Freedrive: This service will provide free add supported shows which is similar to the Roku Channel.  To use this you must sign in with your Amazon Prime Account, IMDB, Google, Facebook.  There are quite a few good streaming movies on this website though they appear to be older.  One I found was American Werewolf in London which is a true classic.
  • Apple TV+: Apple is spending over $2 Billion in content development for custom shows – TV Series and online movies.  They have not announced a monthly price for this.
  • DC Universe: This $8/month service allows you to stream movies and shows from the DC Comics movie library.
  • Discovery: Planning to release a streaming service by 2020 – just one year from now.

These streaming services are just adding on to an already crowded marketplace with existing services such as Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, Amazon Prime Movies, etc.  Plus some of them will be providing free online movies.

Free Movies Online With Two Competitors

How do Netflix and Hulu compare?

Netflix pricing is between $9 to $16 depending on the quantity of parallel streaming movies and the quality of the stream – most people want HD and go for the higher monthly price.   Hulu interestingly reduced their price by $2 to $5.99 for their basic service (that includes ads) right after Netflix increased theirs by $2 to the current pricing.  Netflix has the best quality streaming HD and UHD though Hulu definitely has the best pricing.  If you want more than one stream from Hulu, their pricing starts going up pretty fast.  The biggest difference between the content is that Hulu mainly licenses their content of shows while Netflix produces quite a few of their own – and they’re very good.  If you’re price conscious – stick with Hulu or if you want access to many pre-existing series.  If you’re looking for the new, produced content, Netflix is the one.

As we see the free online streaming movies and TV show market expand not all will survive.  Though, it’s the consumers who will benefit from more competitive pricing models.  The biggest challenge will be how to find the best movies online – using a streaming movies search engine like SpeedyTV.comLinks to an external site. allows you to narrow down the list based on filters to  find the best movies.
